About Dr James Gillard, Osteopath

James was initially drawn to a career in health when seeing how chronic fatigue affected his sister. Having an auntie as a practicing osteopath, he was glad when osteopathic philosophy was so complementary to his own beliefs about the body and health.

“We look at the body in health as meaning perfection and harmony, not in one part, but in the whole” Dr A.T Still, DO”

James graduated from Victoria University with a Masters of Osteopathy and Bachelor of Clinical Sciences and has been working in private practice ever since. He has worked across Melbourne with patients of all ages before joining Southside Osteopathic Clinic. Having worked as an assistant anatomy laboratory technician, he has an intricate understanding of the anatomy under his hands and has an appreciation of how dysfunction in one area can affect the health of an entire body.

James is passionate about osteopathy and it’s philosophy and has undertaken several post graduate courses in osteopathy in the cranial field. He understands that the drive for health is inherent within the system, and through osteopathy, James is able to help facilitate this process. He enjoys explaining to patients how their body works through health and disease and encourages them to move regularly and in lots of different ways throughout their day.

James’ interests include helping patients with chronic pain and complex health issues (including Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia). He intermittently runs pain workshops explaining pain neurophysiology and how to develop different movement strategies. He also has experience with treating sports related injuries.

In his spare time you may find him busking on the streets of Melbourne, sipping a long black, or sweating it out at the gym.
